Medical researchers in Zurich have discovered the first signs of what may be causing long-covid.
Teams at the University of Zurich and the University Hospital of Zurich examined blood samples from infected and non-infected people. Among the infected, 40 developed long-covid symptoms.
The researchers discovered changes in proteins which are part of the immune system.
The proteins seem not to stop the immune system from reacting to the infection, according to the scientists, which damage cells.
The discovery could help on treatments for long-covid.
