Zurich Christmas Market backtracks on cash

A public backlash has forced the organisers of the Christmas market at Zurich train station into a U-turn.

Last week they announced that cash would be banned from the event – angering stall holders and the public alike.

Organisers have now backtracked, after a flood of complaints. They admit the feedback has been overwhelming negative and stressed it was never their intention to exclude anyone.

Now all stalls will be able to accept cash.

One of the complainants was the association behind the upcoming initiative to make sure that cash is always available.

The ‘Yes to a free and independent Swiss currency in the form of notes and coins’ initiative will be voted on in March.
