The former military airfield in Dübendorf in canton Zurich could be at the forefront of the next space race.
Starlab Space is a global joint venture aiming to put up a new space station in 2028. It includes NASA, the European Space Agency, Airbus and Space X.
Starlab says it chose Dubendorf due to the airfield, strong research partners, such as the ETH Zurich.
The company says it wants to lay a foundation to create an ‘ecosystem involving space experts, researchers and scientists.’
But the neighbours will be pleased to know – there are no plans to launch rockets from Dübendorf.
