School children in the City of Zug will have to keep their smartphones switched off during the day from the next academic year.
The rules were brought in after a survey of parents and teachers showed 60% wanted more restrictions.
But, there had to be some exceptions as phones are integral to modern life.
Kids can switch them on to use Twint, check public transport timetables and buy tickets.
