Researchers at the University of Zurich say zoos should start to cull their animals to control populations and improve animal welfare.
Zoos traditionally use contraception to regulate breeding. But the researchers say animals should be allowed to reproduce naturally.
The current methods mean that zoo animals are getting older – and often living longer than they would in the wild.
It’s also suggested the meat from the culled animals could be used to feed other animals – and so making zoos more environmentally friendly.
