A 20-year-old woman has died while in custody at the Geneva police station on Boulevard Carl-Vogt. She’d been arrested for theft the previous evening.
It’s the second death at the same police station already this year.
The police say she was found unresponsive while being detained in a cell. Emergency services were unable to revive her and she was declared dead at the scene.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation.
In January another 20-year-old, this time a man, died while being detained. In that case the Prosecutor’s Office says the initial indications appear to support the theory that suicide was the cause.
That investigation has yet to conclude.
