The Swiss Under 19 cyclist, Muriel Furrer, has died after an accident during a race at Zurich Road Cycling Championships.
Organisers say the 18-year-old suffered a serious head injury after a fall and was airlifted to hospital, where she died later.
Full details of the accident are not available, but she was competing on the City Circuit when she crashed in a forested area. The track was very wet at the time.
Furrer competed in the cross-country and cyclocross. At the European Mountain Bike Championships in May in Romania, she won bronze in the team relay.
