Worries over fake Covid tests

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to spot falsified negative Covid test certificates people are using to travel.

Geneva Police says its officers are not specifically trained to spot forged test results and it's not the job of the airlines to determine the veracity of reports.

The Federal Customs Office says its guards are checking test certificates and some officers have been trained to spot the fakes – but not everyone is being stopped.

Europol are warning there are false certificates circulating. One of the main hotspots is Luton airport in the UK where false reports are being sold.

If someone is caught with a fake test result, they can be charged with forgery. It could carry a three-year prison term – but prosecutors are not saying what penalty they’ll be calling for.
