The Place Neuve, outside the Grand Théâtre, and some other roads in the area are being dug up at the moment to lay a new sound absorbing road surface.
The city says the works will last for around a month.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area, especially as the Blvd du Théâtre is now blocked off.
The pavements are also being renovated to allow easier access for those with disabilities.
