Work starts on Monday for the tram line 15 extension through Lancy, Plan-les-Ouates and Confignon.
It will last until the middle of 2023.
The first job will be removing lamp posts and trees along the route. Any lost trees will be replanted later.
From next month more work to remove roundabouts will take place.
Diversions around the busy roads will be in place for the next couple of years and cyclists are being warned some lanes will be closed at times.
