Renovation work at the Lausanne train station is set to last for at least a further 10 years – but despite tough questioning from several politicians from Geneva and Vaud, more detailed answers were not forthcoming.

Work is currently suspended while federal authorities check it can be caried out safely while the train station remains in use.

The renovation is designed to allow the station to handle 200,000 passengers a day.

The politicians wanted to know much extra was the work going to cost and when will it be finished?

The Federal Department of Transport was unable to answer those questions.  But it did say the delays at Lausanne was unlikely to impact other construction projects on the network.
