Woman hit by a train

A 69-year-old woman was hit by a train in Canton Vaud on Friday evening while she was crossing the tracks at a level crossing.

Despite emergency braking, the train was unable to stop in time and hit the victim, who died on the spot - according to the Vaud Cantonal police in a statement later that evening.

Her husband, who was with her, was unharmed.

According to initial findings from the investigation, the couple crossed the tracks when a train was arriving from Villeneuve at high speed shortly after 3pm.

The accident caused significant disruption Friday evening on the Lausanne-Brig line.
