Wolf spotted on Vaud streets

Residents in a small town in canton Vaud are being told not to panic after a wolf was spotted walking the streets.

Locals in Le Brassus in the Vallée de Joux were shocked when video footage of the animal showed it calmly walking along a road.

The Mayor, Olivier Baudat, says it's nothing to worry about and explains what likely happened: The previous day, workers removed the carcass of a doe which had been killed. The wolf was searching for the kill for more food.

The cantonal Directorate of the Environment is backing the mayor’s assessment. It says the wolf was not being aggressive and its presence is not a problem in itself.
