Widow will have to pay maintenance to ex-wife

Federal Court, Lausanne

The Federal Court has ruled a widow still has to pay maintenance to her late husband’s ex-wife.

In fact, judges have upped the amount due to inflation.

The clearly wealthy man divorced his first wife 30 years ago – and paid his ex CHF 12,000 a month for 29 years.

Following his death, the widow stopped the payments.

But the court ruled the agreement remains in place as the widow is the sole inheritor – which means she inherits the obligations. Judges also say the CHF 12,000 a month should be now CHF 14,000 a month due to inflation.
