We’re littering less.
That’s the result of a survey by the group Community of Interests for a Clean World.
Switzerland has always been a relatively litter free country – but for reasons which aren’t quite clear, during the pandemic, littering worsened.
That prompted many towns and cities to launch campaigns and provide more bins.
But the latest figures show we’re returning to our good habits once again.
Today, 7.6% of people say the littering rate is high where they live – a year ago, it was 8.6%.
But it maybe all in the mind. A professor at the ETH Zurich, who is the scientific director for the survey, believes it’s due to many people not considering littering a serious issue – so they’re less bothered by it. Not because the littering rate is going down.
Ralph Hansmann says compared to covid and Ukraine, littering is not that serious.
