From then on, the price paid for surplus electricity fed back to the grid will shift every 15 minutes with the market, instead of being fixed each quarter by the local distributor.
On sunny weekends when the grid is saturated, that price could briefly turn negative — meaning producers would pay to offload their power.
Parliament has set a floor of six centimes per kilowatt-hour for small home installations under 30 kilowatts, so most owners should still come out ahead over the year.
