We are now definitely in a fourth wave of infections. That’s according to Patrick Mathys from the Federal Health Office.
Speaking at a press conference in Bern yesterday, he says the developments are worrying – but there’s uncertainty if the wave will continue or fall away earlier.
Many of the current infections are from people who have returned from South East Europe – so it maybe a seasonal holiday effect.
But hospital admissions are rising. The vast majority of patients have not been vaccinated.
But there are calls from some cantons to make more use of the vaccine certificate to only allow access to bars and restaurants as well as events to those who have had the jab.
The current wave is an ‘epidemic of the unvaccinated’ according to Urs Karrer from the Covid Task Force.
