There are two parts to the event open to the public: “Au salon” refers to the events that will take place at Geneva’s exhibition centre, Palexpo, from 13 - 15 April, where over 50 watchmakers will unveil their new pieces.
Demonstrations are promised to be interactive and innovative. Tickets start at CHF 70 for a day pass for an adult on the weekend, and CHF 50 on Monday. Saturday is already sold out.
From today, another part of the exhibition will begin. From the 9 - 13 April “In the City” takes place throughout Geneva itself with watchmaking tours, watch exhibits, kids’ workshops, various activities in different boutiques throughout Geneva, and training and career forums. A ‘watchmaking village’ has been set up on the Pont de la Machine.
There’s also a more traditional festival element this week with food trucks and live music. Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies will headline on-stage at 8.30pm this Thursday on the Quai du Général-Guisan.
Switzerland relies too heavily on an American NGO to detect child sexual abuse online, raising questions about the country's ability to protect children on its own.
Summer has arrived, with temperatures climbing past 30 over the long weekend. Basel reached 31 and Sion hit 32.4, but MeteoSwiss, says this does not yet count as an official heatwave.
