Warns of electricity price rises

Electricity companies in French speaking areas of the country are warning prices will have to rise next year - but the spread will not be equal.

Romande Energie and Bas-Valais Energie say prices will move up around 49% on average for the vast majority of homes they serve. Some could see increases of 61%.

Supplier Group E says its rises will be more modest at 19%. The Fribourg company it says it can do that as it has more local sustainable sources.

In Geneva, which is supplied by the SIG – rises will be 22% on current rates – which are already some of the lowest in the country. That’s down to the high level of local generation from hydro and solar power, according to the company.
