Switzerland's mountain guides are now telling climbers to stay off the Matterhorn entirely, as the heatwave makes conditions there dangerous.
The Swiss Mountain Guides Association warns of rockfall, black ice and thawing permafrost across the country's most iconic peak.
Association president Rita Christen says snow cover is melting fast, and many high-altitude routes are far riskier than usual.
The advisory follows the deaths of two mountaineers on a Matterhorn ridge descent just days ago, and adds to a wider Alpine warning from guides across the country.
