Geneva was mainly overcast last year. Cantonal figures show there were 1,693 hours of sunlight in 2024 – the lowest amount for thirty years.
There should normally be around 200 hours more.
But that was due to spring and autumn last year being very grey – the summer was drier, warmer and sunnier than average.
Despite fewer sunny days, temperatures show last year the warming trend is continuing.
The average last year was 12 degrees, slightly cooler than the last two years – but the annual average of 12 degrees was never hit between 1962 and 2017.
