Should cash be protected as a means of payment?

The campaign group, the Swiss Libertarian Movement, have collected more than enough signatures to take the issue to the people. 

The aim is to make sure there are always enough notes and coins available in the economy. 

Backers say that ‘cash is freedom’ and is worried with the rise of cashless payments, the use of physical money is under threat. 

They say the use of electronic payments increases the opportunity for surveillance. 

The text of the initiative also makes sure the Swiss franc ill not be abolished without a further vote.
