Village struggles to find teacher

A village is struggling to find a teacher despite the generous offer of a free apartment and a car.

5 children between the ages of 10 and 8 are urging for applicants to come forward, or they will face a long bus ride to another school.

The previous teacher in the Simplon village school in canton Valais is retiring after 39 years.

The mayor, Sebastian Arnold, says there have only been 7 applications – but none are suitably qualified or can’t start soon enough.

Parents have launched a PR campaign in the hope someone will be tempted to move to the village. One mother says if her children have to go to another school, they would have t get up very early and will be home late – meaning they will struggle to do their homework.
