Cantonal MPs in Vaud say they want to ban all single use plastic.

A proposal has been sent from the Grand Council to the cantonal government asking for it to ban single use plastic by all those organisations and events that are run or funded by the canton.

Green Party member, Nathalie Jaccard, says 50 tonnes of plastic are released into Lake Geneva every year. She points to the success of limiting plastic bags in supermarkets where use is down 80%.

The government is indicating the proposal is being taken seriously. State Councillor Béatrice Métraux says the issue is important and it will be considered in detail.
