Unions are demanding that work on construction sites should be stopped when the weather is hot as figures show accidents increase when temperatures are above 30.
According to the health insurer SUVA, injuries increase by around 7% in hotter weather.
It’s down to a lack of concentration and exhaustion says the insurer.
A spokesman for the Unia Union says when temperatures hit 35, all work should be stopped. But the demands from clients say the schedule should be maintained.
Union representatives are talking to parliamentarians calling for legal protection not just for workers – but construction firms if the project is delayed due to heat.
