The UN office in Geneva will remain closed until next week – extending a previously announced shut down from before Christmas until today.
It’s a belt tightening measure as it will reduce electricity and heating costs.
The organisation says it has a cash shortage as many countries, including the United States, have not paid their dues.
The office has been saving money for the last few weeks by switching off elevators and cutting back on heating.
The UN will operate despite the closure. Staff are being asked to work from home, although some meetings will be going ahead.
