UN cuts hit airport figures

Geneva Airport is hitting turbulence. For the first time since the pandemic, passenger numbers are down - just over 12.2 million travelers from January to August, a dip of 0.36% compared to last year.

That may sound small, but it’s a sharp contrast to Zurich and Basel, both seeing growth. 

It’s due to international organizations tightening their belts. 

UN staff now fly only when strictly necessary. Hotels are feeling the pinch too, with overnight stays linked to International Geneva plunging up to 20%. 

Big events like Watches and Wonders help, but the outlook for 2026 could be even stormier.
