This year, Switzerland hosts the women’s European Football Championships – and expectations are high.
Nyon based UEFA says it believes it will be the most watched and attended women’s championship in history.
In an interview with the Blick, UEFA’s head of women’s football, Nadine Kessler, says advance ticket sales are highly encouraging.
185,000 have been sold in the first phase, with 26% bought by foreign fans. At the same stage for the last championships in England, it was 18%.
UEFA has plans to invest a billion euro from competition revenue into grass roots support for women’s football by 2030.
The first game is Finland against Iceland in Thun in canton Bern at the Stockhorn Arena on July 2nd.
All 10,000 seats are expected to sell.
