Trial of alleged Geneva home invaders underway

Sig Sauer

The trial has started in Bourg-en-Bresse in France of four men accused of an horrific home invasion in Geneva back in 2016 which led to the home owner grabbing his gun and opening fire.

Two young children remained asleep upstairs.

The men are accused of breaking into the house at 4am in Plan-les-Ouates. They held a screwdriver under the throat of the mother and demanded her partner to open the safe. They made off with around CHF 30,000 in cash and jewellery.

The father grabbed his gun, a Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol, and fired at the robbers. He injured one and blood left at the scene is part of the DNA evidence against the defendants.

The attackers fled into France. Their burnt-out car was found a few days later.

The trial is expected to end on Friday.
