Western parts of the country are picking up the pieces after storm Benjamin swept through the region yesterday.
Heavy rain and high winds caused damage in Geneva. Streets flooded in the centre of town and the winds brought down two valuable trees at the botanical gardens - managers say they’re heartbroken.
4,000 Geneva residents, around the communes of Bernex, Chancy and Plan-les-Ouates, lost power for a couple of hours after the winds brought down cables.
Firefighters were on the streets clearing roads from fallen trees - they were called out 78 times yesterday morning.
Two planes heading for Geneva - one from Munich and the other from Faro - had to be diverted.
The town of Yverdon in Vaud had a narrow escape when the roof of a power station was blown off. Fortunately, it continued to run, otherwise the town would have lost electricity.
In Givrins, a bus was hit by a falling tree, smashing the windows. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
Morges did lose power - an electricity pylon near Biere was brought down in the wind.
In all, firefighters in Vaud received 600 calls during the morning.
