Trains to London take a step closer

Plans for direct train services between Switzerland and London have moved a step closer, after Swiss Federal Railways, the SNCF and Eurostar signed a new cooperation agreement.

The companies say they see strong demand for direct rail connections from Geneva, Basel and Zurich to the British capital, with projected journey times of around five to six hours.

The next phase will focus on timetables, border procedures and infrastructure requirements, including Channel Tunnel access.

However, travellers shouldn’t expect to board any time soon, the first direct trains are not expected before the 2030s.
