Trains running again after Bern derailment

Services are running normally again on a stretch of railway line in the canton of Bern after the derailment of a train on Friday afternoon in Lüscherz.

It’s believed that the derailment was caused by strong winds, linked to storm Mathis. The lead car of the train overturned and rolled down an embankment, leaving three people, including the train’s driver, with minor injuries.

Sixteen people were on the train at the time of the accident.

Also on Friday afternoon, about 40 kilometres away, the lead car and two other wagons of a train from the RBS company derailed in Büren zum Hof.

Of the 54 people on the train, 12 were injured, including one man who suffered serious injuries.

According to the train company, the line between Jegenstorf in the canton of Bern and Lohn-Lüterkofen in the canton of Solothurn should be passable on a single track from this morning.
