Today's meeting on a tight schedule

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to land at around 12.30 and then go directly to the Parc La Grange for the summit.

The meeting will be opened by the Swiss president Guy Parmelin at 1pm.

The first stage will be a face-to-face discussion with Biden and Putin together with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov.

The summit doesn’t just include the two leaders – it’s expected different groups from each side could break away to discuss specific issues.
There’s likely to be space for Biden and Putin to speak privately later in the afternoon.

There’s no strict timeline for the length of the meeting – but it is expected to last between 4 or 5 hours. Diplomatic analysts will be watching the time carefully – if the meeting is shorter than 4 hours, it could be a sign of failure.

The two leaders will each hold a separate press conference at the end of the summit.

Travel for ordinary citizens is expected to be especially difficult in Geneva this afternoon as both leaders will be leaving after the summit and heading back to the airport.
