Tighter travel restrictions cause confusion

Switzerland has added five countries to its list of territories with a Covid variant of concern and has tightened entry requirements.

In Europe, those countries are the United Kingdom, The Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

Travellers arriving from those countries will have to show they are fully vaccinated, have a negative test taken in the previous 48 hours and then will also have to quarantine for 10 days.

The Federal Health Office has clarified its earlier advice that it is not necessary to have a Swiss passport or Schengen residency to enter. The confusion reportedly led to some international passengers being denied boarding in the UK yesterday.

The authorities acknowledge the situation is fast moving and can change at short notice.
