Ticino voters head to the polls on 14 June on a proposal to create Switzerland's first compulsory cantonal dental insurance.
The popular initiative would treat basic dental care as part of public health, funded jointly by employees, employers and the canton.
Voters in Vaud, Geneva and Neuchâtel have all rejected similar projects in recent years.
The cantonal government, the parliamentary majority and several centre-right parties are opposed, warning the scheme could cost around CHF 150 million a year.
If approved, Ticino would become the first canton in Switzerland to introduce universal compulsory dental cover.
