Thousands of women took to the streets yesterday around the country for the national women’s strike.
The Swiss Trades Union Federation say more than 100,000 marched.
The protestors highlighted the persistent wage disparity with men by marking the time of 3.19pm – which is when women stop being paid compared to men based on a normal 9-5 workday.
But there is more than just pay. The government’s plan to equalize the women’s retirement age with men is seen as another set back and unjustified while wages are so different.
The last women’s strike was two years ago and many complain there’s been very little progress in that time.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, many protests were decentralized and took place in many different areas.
There were marches in Zurich, outside the Federal Palace in Bern and on the Place des Nations in Geneva.
