The medical files of 43,000 Neuchâtel residents have been leaked online after hackers followed through on their threat.
The data was stolen earlier this month when the IT systems of twin medical offices in the canton were broken into.
The thieves demanded a ransom – or the information would be leaked. No money came, so the information was published.
The details include names, dates of birth and medical histories.
The lists are enough to find out who is HIV positive, who uses drugs and those who are clinically depressed.
It’s being reported by the ‘Les Temps’ newspaper that the medical practices had been warned by their IT company that their systems were weak – but they took no action.
