Thousands mark anniversary of Hamas attack

Thousands across the country marked the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel over the weekend.

4,000 demonstrated against the violence in the Middle East in Basel on Saturday – and there were rallies in Bern and Geneva yesterday.

The International Red Cross, based in Geneva, issued a statement saying ‘human suffering knows no borders.’

Since the attacks, life for Jews in Switzerland has changed profoundly.

Ralph Friedländer, President of the Swiss Federation of Israelite Communities says antisemitism has increased massively, including against children.

The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Alexandre Fasel, says the fact that fellow Jewish citizens feel unsafe is unacceptable.
More rallies are expected today.
