Thousands demonstrate in Geneva

Around 2,000 public sector workers took to the streets in Geneva yesterday afternoon, marking their fourth strike in six months.

The protest, led by the Inter-Union Cartel, marched from Plainpalais to the old town, demanding action over wage freezes and planned budget cuts.

Union leaders warn staff face real income losses and accuse authorities of downplaying healthy public finances.

Strikers have now voted to continue the movement on May 7th, when the 2026 budget comes before parliament — raising the prospect of further disruption.
