Thônex residents complain of violence

Residents in Thônex are appealing to the police to do something about continuous unrest on the housing estates.

Locals complain that several times a week, fireworks are fired at the buildings. One resident says they’re afraid even to go out on the balcony.

Another told the press that when they call the police, they don’t even need to give the address anymore as the problems are so well known.

A joint letter from residents has been sent to the police – asking sarcastically if they should set up their own force to keep the peace.

The police say they’re aware of the problem, especially on the Place Graveson. They say it’s is a difficult area to manage as it’s a very dense population which doesn’t have a local municipal centre to set up a proximity station.
