Geneva could face unintended consequences from the Swiss People’s Party’s “No 10 Million Swiss!” initiative, which aims to curb population growth by restricting immigration.
The proposal does not address cross-border workers, raising concern among local officials.
Geneva councillor Mauro Poggia has criticized the omission. The member of the anti-frontalier Geneva Citizens’ Movement says companies may increasingly rely on cross-border commuters to fill labour shortages.
With over 110,000 already commuting into Geneva, critics say the plan could further strain infrastructure.
The nationwide vote is set for June 14.
