Temps breach 36

The country’s heatwave has intensified, with temperatures topping 36 for the first time this year.

The highest reading was recorded in Basel at 36.6, while Neuchâtel reached 36.2.

MeteoSwiss has raised its heat alert to level four — classified as a high danger — across much of western Switzerland, including the Lake Geneva region and central Valais.

Officials warn there will be little cooling overnight, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.

Some schools have already cancelled outdoor end-of-year events, while teachers' unions are calling for broader measures to protect pupils.
