Syrian asylum applications suspended

Switzerland is suspending asylum proceedings for Syrian applicants. The same decision has already been made by other countries, such as France and the UK.

The government says it’s not in a position to accurately assess whether there are grounds for asylum after the fall of the Assad regime.

Syrians who are living in Switzerland have been telling the press that while they’re clearly delighted the regime has fallen, it’s too early to decide if it will be safe for them to return just yet.

Many have now been on Switzerland for so long, they’ve integrated. 42-year-old Dara Sadun, who lives in Bern and works as a barber, told the Blick newspaper that he now has a family in Bern and he feels Swiss.
