Switzerland's oldest person dies

Marie Guerne at 105 years old

The person who was the oldest in Switzerland has died.

Marie Guerne was born in Lucerne in 1912 – she was 111 years old, just a month before her 112th birthday. 

While she did spend most of her life in Switzerland – she had lived for short periods in London and Paris. 

She died at al old people’s home in Orvin in canton Bern - where she’d lived for the last 20 years. 

Staff said she was friendly and jovial and was in reasonably good health shortly before she died. 

The title of Switzerland’s oldest person now passes to 110-year-old Anna Furrer.
