Switzerland will follow EU's energy plan

Switzerland will follow the EU’s timeline on banning petrol and diesel vehicles.

Yesterday the Federal Council issued a statement that its policy will not deviate from the EU’s and will gradually move to fossil fuel free cars from the year 2035.

Earlier this year parliament voted to reject a plan to ban the internal combustion engine – with the solid backing of the Swiss People’s Party.

Car makers are themselves moving faster – many say they will stop making cars with traditional engine before that date.

In practice there’ll be very few petrol and diesel vehicles to buy by 2035 anyway.
