Switzerland has been condemned by the European Court of Human Rights over its treatment of two vegan detainees.
Judges in Strasbourg ruled that authorities violated the men's right to freedom of thought and belief by refusing to provide vegan meals during their detention in Geneva's Champ-Dollon prison.
The court has awarded the pair a total of around EUR 16,000 in compensation.
Their lawyer says the ruling strengthens protection for ethical convictions and animal welfare.
