Switzerland overshot its use of natural resources yesterday.
‘Overshoot Day’ is calculated by the Global Footprint Network and uses a mathematical model to determine when a country exhausts its hypothetical resources available within its borders.
The model shows by the end of the year, this country will have used 2 and a half times the resources available to it.
The figures are in line with the average energy use of a western European nation.
Globally, energy use is 1.1 above the planet’s capacity.
