Swiss TV bans Depardieu movies

A decision by Swiss French television to suspend the broadcast of films starring Gérard Depardieu is dividing opinion.

The network says it won’t broadcast his films after allegations of sexual assault and rape in a French TV documentary.

Some politicians, mainly from the right, say it’s not the place of RTS to impose its views – but others say it's right to protect the sensitivities of the public.

The Swiss broadcaster also points out similar decisions have been made by the French, Belgian and Canadian TV channels.

So far it means that one film scheduled for broadcast has been cancelled – but another where Depardieu had only a minor role, did go ahead.
