SWISS steward suffocated on plane

The air steward who died on a SWISS International Airlines flight just before Christmas died due to a faulty mask.

That’s the conclusion from the Graz public prosecutors’ office in Austria.

On December 23rd, a SWISS flight from Bucharest to Zurich had to make an emergency landing in Graz as an engine failure was filling the cabin with smoke.

Twelve passengers needed medical care – but the 23-year-old steward was transferred to intensive care with breathing difficulties.

He died a week later. The autopsy report says his brain didn’t receive enough oxygen.

The masks used by cabin crew are now the centre of attention. SWISS says they are due to be replaced as there have been some issues with them in the past.

But the airline says they’re still certificated and deny being slow to change them.
