Swiss president offers condolences after royal death

The Swiss president Guy Parmelin joined other leaders from around the world and expressed his ‘sadness’ following the death of the husband of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip.

In a tweet, Parmelin says the Prince was a reassuring presence for the British people and he says his thoughts and those of the Swiss are with the Queen and her family.

Philip was a regular visitor to Switzerland and patron of the Swiss based World Wide Fund for Nature. He’s also made official visits to the particle physics laboratory, CERN.

Prince Philip died on Friday at 99 years old. His funeral will be held on Saturday.
